"I like to paint people and am intrigued by the varieties that exist in the human experience. I intuitively choose the people I paint. They are more of the 'common man', those who are not often noticed but still have their story to tell. I am interested in trying to capture that moment behind the mask. The transparency of watercolor allows me to build that emotion and complexity layer by layer." Susan Montague
Our featured artist during the month of May, award-winning Susan Montague, will display her exquisite figurative watercolor paintings. Since she started painting Susan has been in numerous juried shows and has received many awards. In 2010 Susan was awarded the American Watercolor Society's Bronze Medal of Honor for her painting "Far and Away". She was recently featured on the cover of the February 2011 Watercolor Artist Magazine, along with a full article.
In addition to our April Gallery exhibition, tour three floors of artists' studios and visit with our many local studio artists who work in a variety of mediums, including painting, photography, sculpture, and ceramics.
